What is the Trials of Osiris?
Trials of Osiris is a 3v3 Elimination mode Crucible event available only from Friday 10am Pacific to the weekly reset early Tuesday morning. Trials of Osiris requires a minimum Character Level of 40 with a a minimum Light of 331, but a Light level of 370 is recommended. Two teams of 3 players each battle each other with no respawns. The first team to completely eliminate the other team wins the round. Win 5 rounds and you win the match. Teammates can be resurrected during the round. Your team will be paired with opponents based on number of wins you have. Similar to Iron Banner, level and gear advantages are enabled in Trials of Osiris. This means that a Guardians Defense rating affects how you take damage, while the Attack rating affects how you inflict damage. Lower-level players wielding fully-upgraded weapons are still considered a very credible threat!
How the Trials of Osiris Works
To enter Trials of Osiris, players are required to purchase a Trials Passage card for 500 glimmer. Players will need to visit Brother Vance in the reef in order to purchase the card. The Trials Passage card is a scorecard that tracks a players current wins and losses. Players can keep playing as long as they keep winning. As soon as the player loses 3 times, they can no longer participate in the Trials until they purchase another Trials Passage card. If a player quits a match they will automatically earn a loss on their scorecard. Players who are able to win the nine games without a lost are rewarded a Flawless Victory, which allows them passage to the Lighthouse on Mercury. The Lighthouse is accessible from the Director screen. This location is considered a social space, and players can visit on their own or with their fire team. Here the players can receive various rewards.
“The purpose of the trials is to hone the right weapon for the right moment.”
Brother VanceEach Trials game lasts 2 minutes, at the end of two minutes if there is no winner a capture zone will spawn in the center of the map. You can capture the capture point to win the round. After 2 minutes and 30 seconds, sudden death starts. The team with the player closest to the capture point wins.
Special Ammo is not available at the beginning of the match, but after a time period it will automatically appear in a players inventory. Special ammo spawns once per round and Heavy Ammo spawns once every 4 rounds. Heavy ammo spawns 15 seconds after the start of the round. Unused Special and Heavy ammo do not carry over to the next round. Super energy does not reset after each round.
Passage Coins
Passage Coins are a Currency Material item that allows players to purchase Favor of Osiris, Mercy of Osiris and Boon of Osiris from Brother Vance for 3 Coins each. Players can obtain Passage Coins from Featured Crucible playlist (High Probability) and normal Crucible (Low Probability). Players will also earn Passage Coins at the end of Trials matches.
Buffs
Players can buy special Buffs with Trials Coins to ease their path through the Trials. Forgive a loss, add a win, or even double-down on your first victory… each Passage may carry all three Buffs. Players can purchase each buff with their Passage Coins, through Trials of Osiris games, as well as playing Daily featured Crucible playlists. The three boons are:
Favor of Osiris
A single-use consumable item that can be used to start Trials of Osiris with 1 win. It can be purchased from Details page of Trials Passage for 3 Passage Coins.
Mercy of Osiris
A single-use consumable item that allows your first loss in Trials of Osiris to be forgiven. It can be purchased from Details page of Trials Passage for 3 Passage Coins.
Boon of Osiris
A single-use consumable item that gives you 2 wins for winning your first Trials of Osiris match. It can be purchased from Details page of Trials Passage for 3 Passage Coins.
If a player purchased the Mercy of Osiris boon and go on to get 9 wins and 1 loss, it will still count as Flawless Victory. The Mercy of Osiris boon will erase the first loss, it will not show up on the Trials Passage card.
It’s important to keep in mind that buffs are not shared between fireteam members, each member will need to purchase their own. All buffs must be purchased before the first match.

TIPS & TRICKS
Help your gameKnow Your Enemy
Once your Trials lobby populates, but before the match begins, it’s possible to get a look at the opponents you’re facing with the press of a button. Just go to the game menu, navigate to the Roster screen, hover the pointer over an opponent player’s name and press the Triangle or Y button (depending on the system you use) to Inspect them. That brings up a character sheet showing you the player’s class, subclass and load-out. Get a sense of your opponents before the match starts. If there are no Warlocks on their team then you don’t have to worry about a Sunsinger reviving themselves.
Remember that they can inspect you as well. Some players set themselves up with a different load-out before a match begins than the one they actually intend to use. Then when the pre-match introductions are taking place they will quickly switch to their preferred load-outs.
Communicate
Communication is key, you hear that for many things in life, and Trials of Osiris is no different. That’s why it’s important to maintain good team communication. This helps when you create a plans of attack. If you’re using a defensive strategy, have everyone post up in a defensible location covering different fields of fire, have your teammates communicate locations when the enemy is spotted. Let your team know if there are enemies headed their way, or if all three are headed your way, that way they can provide support.
If you’re going to press the attack, designate one person to push around for a flanking maneuver. Don’t rush into things because it will affect your teams strategy. It’s important to assign roles and stick to them, but you should always be ready to adjust your strategy on the fly.
Reviving Teammates
Reviving your dead teammates takes priority. Very few people can pull off a 2 against 1, much less a 3 against 1. That’s why it’s important to revive your teammates when they’re down, having a level playing field, or even a man advantage is key to victory.
Also keep tabs on your enemies downed Guardians. If you’re up by a man or two make sure one teammate can cover the enemies Ghosts so they’re not easily revived.
Use the Right Gear
Speaking of reviving your dead teammate, make sure that your character is wearing armor that will make the passage through the Trials a bit easier. Try using the Exotic Armors that increase revive speed (Alpha Lupi for Titans and Hunters, Light Beyond Nemesis for Warlocks). This can be the difference between being a man down to being a man up. Being able to revive your teammate faster can make all the difference.Make sure you’re wearing the highest light level gear as well. The higher your light level, the better chance you have of taking and dealing damage. Trials of Osiris is level-dependent.
Pick the primary weapon you’re most comfortable with and ensure that every member of your team is using a Rocket Launcher as their heavy. One of the best Heavy Weapons to use in Trials is the Truth Rocket Launcher, which is an Exotic Weapon. Truth has the ability to track enemies, as well as detonate its warhead when it is near them, helping you rack up more kills.
Special weapons require a touch more strategy. You’ll want to use what you’re comfortable with, but it’s just as important to ensure flexibility in your approach. The most common, and some will argue best, options are shotguns and sniper rifles, representing short- and long-range tactics, respectively. Your team can equip two shotguns and a sniper if you want to rush the opponent, and the opposite if you want to fight from a distance. Refine your approach, but keep the reverse for a backup. You should always be flexible to your weapons, depending on how your game progresses.
Use Supers Wisely
Players will typically only get one or two Supers per match. This means it’s absolutely crucial that your team uses them wisely. If you’re a Hunter and use the Bladedancer subclass, it should be used offensively to flank, same with radiance Sunsingers. These two classes are particularly good during the heavy ammo round for aggressive assault on the enemy’s spawn. A common practice for Sunsingers is their use of their Fireborn ability to self-resurrect. This will allow them to resurrect themselves at any point once downed, and is commonly used at the end of the match when the opposing team believes they’ve won. Many people can attest to the fact that it can flip what might seem like an obvious victory to a defeat. Defenders should use weapons of light so the whole team gets a huge damage buff. Strikers, Gunslingers, and Voidwalkers should save their supers to counter Bladedancers and Sunsingers.
